Cosmetic Grade Powder Acetyl Hexapeptide-1
Acetyl Hexapeptide-1
Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 (Melitane®)
Product Overview
Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 (INCI name), also known as Melitane®, is a synthetic bioactive peptide composed of six amino acids. Unlike traditional anti-wrinkle peptides that solely target muscle contraction, Acetyl Hexapeptide-1 offers dual functionality: it reduces expression lines through a neuromodulatory mechanism while simultaneously stimulating melanin synthesis via the α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) pathway. This unique combination makes it suitable for anti-aging formulations requiring both wrinkle reduction and photoprotection, as well as hair pigmentation products.

Key Benefits
Benefit Category | Description |
|---|---|
Anti-Wrinkle | Reduces expression lines (crow‘s feet, forehead wrinkles) through neuromuscular relaxation; reported efficacy over 10x stronger than Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 |
Skin Protection | Helps repair UV-induced DNA damage; reduces skin erythema and inflammation |
Sunless Tanning | Stimulates melanin synthesis via MC1R activation, inducing natural-looking skin pigmentation |
Hair Pigmentation | Stimulates hair pigmentation; darkens hair and may reverse the gray hair process |
Skin Conditioning | Maintains skin in good condition; provides soothing and anti-inflammatory effects |
Clinical data reference: A study on 32 middle-aged Chinese women showed improvements in photoaged facial skin after 8 weeks of treatment with a serum containing supramolecular retinol and Acetyl Hexapeptide-1.
Applications & Usage Guidelines
Recommended Applications: Anti-aging serums and creams, self-tanning lotions, sun care formulations, hair darkening products, after-sun repair, eye contour treatments, facial masks, lotions, and emulsions.
Recommended Concentration:
Form | Recommended Dosage in Final Formulation |
|---|---|
Powder (≥98% purity) | 5 – 5,000 ppm (0.0005% – 0.5%) |
Powder (typical anti-aging) | 20 – 500 ppm (0.002% – 0.05%) |
Maximum historical use (China IECIC) | Whole body leave-on: 2%; Eye area leave-on: 4% |
For hair pigmentation applications, higher concentrations within the 500-5000 ppm range may be used.
Formulation Guidelines
pH Stability: Stable within pH range of 5.0–7.0.
Thermal Stability: Heat sensitive. Add during the cooling phase at temperatures below 40°C (104°F).
Solubility: Water-soluble. For uniform distribution, pre-dissolve the peptide powder in a small amount of distilled water, propylene glycol, or butylene glycol at room temperature before adding to the main batch.
Formulation Compatibility: Compatible with most cosmetic bases including creams, lotions, serums, gels, and emulsion systems. Compatible with humectants (glycerin, hyaluronic acid), other peptides, and antioxidants.
Addition Protocol:
Pre-dissolve the peptide in a small amount of cool water or suitable solvent
Ensure the main batch temperature is below 40°C
Add the pre-dissolved solution slowly while stirring gently
Avoid high-shear mixing
Verify final formulation pH (5.0–7.0)
Incompatible Ingredients: Strong acids (pH < 5.0), strong bases (pH > 7.0), and high concentrations of strong oxidizing agents may degrade the peptide.
Storage & Handling
Parameter | Condition |
|---|---|
Short-term storage | 2 – 8°C (refrigerator), sealed, protected from light, desiccated |
Long-term storage | -15°C to -20°C (freezer), tightly sealed |
Shelf life | 24 months under recommended conditions |
Transport | Room temperature acceptable for short-term |
Protection | Protect from light, heat, and moisture |
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For extended shelf life, maintain at -20°C. Once opened, reseal tightly and return to recommended storage conditions promptly.
